The 2014 Mr. Zomba Bodybuilding Championship at Gymkhana Club will take place on December 21 and not on Boxing Day as previously arranged, organisers have said.

Zomba bodybuilding coordinator Bright Limani said yesterday that the change of dates is strategic as they do not want fans that might travel to various destinations between December 23 and 31 to miss the contest.

“We have shifted the dates on strategic grounds; we want to accommodate fans who might be very committed to other things during this Christmas period. Moreover, Gymkhana Club has been fully booked for other activities on the initial date for the contest,” he said.

Meanwhile, the competition, which will be sponsored by WT Food Zone and Teng-Du Investments to the tune of K500 000, has registered 20 bodybuilders, including former national weightlifting champion Thoko Kakhongwe.

WT Food Zone bankrolled the inaugural event last year alongside Mervin Autoparts. Emmanuel Binauli is the current Mr. Zomba. He claimed the inaugural title at Gymkhana Club.
