“We are now at the preparatory stage of the regional finals starting with the North on November 5, Centre on December 3 and then the South on January 28, 2017,” she said.

Those triumphant in the regions will contest in the national final to be held in Lilongwe on April 29, 2017.

“We are done with the auditions in all the three regions. However, as you know, we initially had only four successful ladies in the Northern Region. We set out to ensure the beauty pageant is as representative as possible and felt that such was not met in the North.

“So we called for interested ladies in the north who missed the audition date in the region to still enter the competition. Four more ladies have been successful and will contest in the Northern Region,” added Ndanga.

The development means there will be eight contestants in the North and 12 each from the Centre and South.

The 2016/17 Miss Malawi pageant is organised by Nation Publications Limited (NPL) and Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
