Malawi Savings Bank (MBS) says construction of a modern banking facility in Mwanza worth K70 million (about $280 000) currently underway is set to be completed in October this year.

MSB Blantyre Branch acting manager Stephen Mangwaya said in a recent interview on the sidelines of a consultative meeting with stakeholders in the district on the services the bank offers.

“Construction of the bank was initially scheduled to end sometime this August or September. However, the work delayed due to some logistical problems, but now everything is set for the work to be completed in October,” Mangwaya said.

He said the new state-of-the-art branch would offer full banking services such as savings, withdrawals and loaning through current, fixed, premium and savings accounts as well as auto-teller machine (ATM) facilities.

He noted that construction of the new spacious branch in Mwanza and a similar one in Chikhwawa was a milestone towards fulfilling the bank’s obligation of taking banking services to all parts of the country, especially rural areas.

The manager assured the public of MSB’s commitment to rolling out efficient banking services in peri-urban and rural settings such as trading centres. —Malawi News Agency
