MSC Silver capped their awesome form in the 2012 FMB 20/20 Cricket League season with a vintage display in the finals to earn their first major title.

They beat MSC White 134-118 runs on Sunday at the Indian Sports Club (ISC).

Earlier in the day, they ousted defending champions MSC Orange by a run in the semi-finals.

With an advantage of batting in the second innings of the final and making 14-runs in their first over, MSC White were confident of easing past MSC Silver, but that never came to pass.

“I would say we were on top of our game today. Our batting and bowling techniques were excellent,” said MSC Silver’s captain Saeed Limdawala, whose two-year-old side also beat MSC Red 107-106 runs in the semi-finals in 12 overs.

Asif Rustam, who contributed 50 runs in MSC Silver win over MSC White, emerged the best player of the tournament. He made overall input of 237 runs and nine wickets. MSC White’s Imran Khan and Zahid Bashir finished as best batsman and bowler respectively.

According to Southern Region Cricket League’s (SRCL) chairperson Shiraz Zaveri, the 2012 season has been historic as it was the first time for MSC Silver and MSC White to reach the final.

Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) president Azeez Quresh thanked FMB for sponsoring cricket for 11 years whereas the bank’s head of marketing Sylvia Nankwenya-Mataka promised more support and urged MCU to involve more indigenous communities to make the sport more popular.

“We want cricket to be more popular in the country and we need to engage more indigenous communities. Everyone should contribute to the good name of cricket,” said Nankwenya-Mataka.
