Msoliza beats Kangama in non-tile bout

Ernest Msoliza used home ground advantage to beat Lilongwe-based Lameck Kangama in a non-title bout at the refurbished Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu on Sunday.

Msoliza won on unanimous points decision after three judges scored 94-93, 96-95 and 98-96 in his favour.

The two fought in the welter weight category.

It was Msoliza’s eighth win out of 13 bouts while for Kangama it was his fifth defeat in six fights, having won once since turning professional.

“I am happy for the win; it is always good to win in front of home fans. I am looking forward to more bouts,” said Msoliza.

Kangama accepted defeat and congratulated Msoliza for his victory.

“It was not my day, Msoliza was good. He fought well, but I will challenge him for a rematch,” he said.

In supporting bouts, Lewis Nkhata beat Tanzanian Yahaya Mayipopa, Leo Kayira defeated Patrick Kayira (not related) while Secret Chirwa beat Macdonald Thipa.

Speaking in an interview, promoter of the bouts, Baghdad Mwamlima pledged to continue supporting boxing in the country so as to put Malawian boxers on the map. n
