Msoliza to shed five kilos to face Chazama

Mzuzu-based boxer Ernest Msoliza has been advised to shed five kilogrammes ahead of his professional fight against Salimu Chazama of Lilongwe.

Msoliza weighs 69 kilogrammes while Chazama, who weighs 60 kilogrammes, needs to add four kilos.

The two boxers will face each other in a 12-round contest at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe on May 11.

New Dawn Boxing Promotions has organised the fight to curtain-raise the main bout between Felix Mwamanso and Alick Mwenda.

“We are strict on this as we do not want one boxer to have an advantage over the other because of weight. We do not want a repeat of the Msoliza vs Marshal Ali fight where the difference in weight was big. We will remind their managers to check the weight of their boxers before the day of the bout,” said New Dawn director Michael Chimaliza.

He said the fight will not take place if one boxer will not comply with the requirement.

To motivate the two boxers, New Dawn has promised to sponsor the winner to a title fight against Chrispin Moliati.

In an interview on Tuesday, Chazama said he has already gained the required weight.

“I am in shape and already reached the recommended weight. I am looking forward to this fight,” he said.

The two boxers have fought seven times as amateurs Chazama winning three times while Msoliza won once. They drew in the other three meetings.
