Tipped to go unopposed: Msungama

Businessperson Kondi Msungama is set to be elected as Big Bullets’ chairperson at the club’s elective AGM slated for tomorrow (Saturday) at their clubhouse in Blantyre.

According to Bullets Board of Trustees chairperson James Busile and secretary Jim Kalua, as of noon on Thursday, they had still not received any other nomination for the club’s top seat.

The cut-off point for the nominations was close of business Thursday.

Said Busile: “Unless if we get late nominations, the indications so far are that Kondi is most likely to go unopposed.”

Apparently, Msungama is set to contest in absentia having travelled to Dubai yesterday on a business trip.

“I am leaving for Dubai today on an urgent business trip, but I have confirmed my candidature to the trustees and the supporters committee.

“I remain very committed to rejuvenate the team into a formidable force that it was 10 years ago if I am elected and I believe I have sold myself well to the supporters,” he said.

Msungama, once served as the club’s treasurer when the People’s Team had the tag of invisibility to the extent of making the last eight in the CAF Champions League a decade ago.

According to Kalua, as of yesterday noon, three persons— Enos Chatama, Harold Fote and Brian Ligomeka— had been nominated for the position of general secretary.

However, behind the scenes, some supporters committee members were reportedly persuading Blantyre-based lawyer Joseph Kamkwasi to join the race.

Kamkwasi, who served in the same position a couple of years ago, is reported to be uncertain on whether to accept the request.

And in a dramatic development, another businessperson Noel Lipipa who had ruled himself out after being nominated by some supporters committee members due to what he described as pressure of work, has had a sudden change of heart and is expected to contest for the position of treasurer with Alex Gondwe.

Sidik Malinga, who once served as treasurer in the previous committee, was also set to go unopposed for the position of first vice-chairperson, but according to Kalua, they were expecting another nomination for the post yesterday afternoon.
