Playing off 21 handicap (h/c), Mtambalika won the Saturday tournament with 41 points while Lilongwe-based Geoffrince Kondwani was the runner-up.

Mtambalika said consistency that saw him keep the ball on the fairway, was the centrepiece of his victory.

Chirwa (h/c16) won Friday’s tournament with 42 points.

“I played well on the back nine, but my outstanding display was on hole 16 on which I had an eagle,” he said.

His runner-up was veteran golfer James ‘JJ’ Chikapa who had 41 points whereas Anthony Makawa came third with 37 points.

The overall champions each received Huawei P9 smartphone-lite and a trophy.

In the women’s category, Arnes Araujo won with 38 points while Rashid Salimu (h/c4) triumphed in developmental golfers’ section. Timothy Olwoc came tops in juniors’ section and Chikhulupiliro Mphatso won the TNM closed.

Makawa, Gift Chidya Gondwe, Chikapa (twice) and Frank Jomo had two clubs. There were also several other golfers that won subsidiary prizes.

TNM acting chief executive officer Eric Valentine said they were impressed with the record turnout.

“The idea was to have a field of 72, but when we heard that the tournament was over subscribed, we had to change the strategy because, as the number one network, we are always with you

“We support golf throughout the country and we always do it in a big way,” he said.

The integrated mobile network and ICT provider also donated K250 000 for the maintenance of the greens.

CCL vice-golf captain Chiukepo Gondwe thanked TNM, also not only for the sponsorship, but for accommodating all golfers.
