The Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) has admitted that its TelMO-TN handsets have battery and charger faults.

Recently, MTL consumers have been registering dissatisfaction with the handsets, which in most cases have problems charging. MTL sells the handsets at K5 999.mtl

In an interview the company’s chief commercial officer Gladson Kuyeri, admitted that some of the phones are faulty.

“We are aware that there is a batch that has some problems and that one of the issues is the spare parts. There are problems to do with the charger or the battery,” he said

Kuyeri said while MTL does not stock any spare parts for its handsets, the parts can be accessed from the parallel market.

He has since advised consumers to use similar batteries and chargers offered on the market in the meantime.

Lately, the company also admitted struggling with poor network, call drops and failure by its customers to recharge their accounts. According to Kuyeri, the problems have been resolved.

“We have had issues with our prepared billing system in the months of September and October which affected some customers who were not able to recharge or to buy bundles. We have since worked on it,” he said.
