Mulli Brothers Limited (MBL) has said its sponsorship for districts football leagues in the Southern Region does not mean it is doing well financially as a company.

Speaking at the launch of the K1 million (about $4 000) Chiradzulu District Football League on Sunday at Chiradzulu Secondary School, MBL group operations manager Joseph Mac Khupe said the sponsorships are just aimed at giving back to the communities.

“Economically, the situation is not conducive in the country and we have not been spared,” said Khupe.

MBL now sponsors three district leagues, including Mulanje and Phalombe.

Guest of honour Philomena Kasambwe, MP for the area, hailed MBL for the gesture and urged other companies to follow suit.

SRFC chairperson Raphael Humba urged the organising committee to run the league professionally.

Chiradzulu United beat Doni FC 1-0 during the launch game. The league will run up to December 2012.
