MultiChoice Malawi is supporting this year’s Lake of Stars (LoS) festival, with a DStv advert running on several channels in the run up to the dates of the festival.

The advert is creating awareness of the event while at the same time promoting Lake Malawi to the world in general.

With The Very Best’s Ali Kuti Yoshua song in the background, the advert shows Malawian artists like Peter Mawanga and The Very Best performing at previous Lake of Stars. It also depicts different views about the annual festival from media organisations like The Guardian and the CNN.

“We produced the half-a-minute TV ad, which has been on air since the first week of August and runs up till September 26, 2014. The advert, valued at US$300 (over K120 000) per spot, is running on premium channels such as Discovery World, SuperSport HD 2, Mzansi Magic and Style Network.

“It is also airing on channels which are not accessible in Malawi like Yoruba, a popular Nigeria channel, M-Net East, very prime DStv channel in East Africa for countries like Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania,” said MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda.

He said this is part of the strategy to sell Malawi to other parts of the world: “It is our wish to compliment Malawi government’s efforts in supporting and promotion of local entertainment and tourism within and outside the country. Our local subscribers want to watch programmes and stories from Malawi, hence this partnership. This means we are selling the festival to Malawians and 48 other African countries as well.”

According to Nyirenda, the DStv franchise dealers will also support this year’s Lake of Stars festival through recording of different television programmes as well as presenting former Big Brother Mzansi host, Lungile Radu, to host the LoS main stage.

“We have also sponsored a television crew from M-Net East Africa to Malawi where they will produce a Malawi food special cookery programme with former Big Brother Africa Malawi representative Hazel Warren,” said Nyirenda.
