Munyapa is my man!

Listen to this article

I have always written on this column that my valentine—Mulanje West MP Patricia Kaliati— otherwise known as ‘Akweni’, never ceases to thrill my world.

The occasion that comes to mind is when she did not give a damn during a public function and openly proclaimed: “Azimayi nthawi zina azibambowa timatowaputa dala tokha, nanga zoona munthu ukugona ndi mamunako utavala andiloko [underwear] ndiye asakasake kwina?

There was even a time when she joked that she would take me along banks of Thuchila River so that we could have a picnic and then scrub each other’s back, saying “Tikanyulane kunsana mu Thuchilamu my dear!”. She has always left me with a host of memories.

It, therefore, felt so good to meet my valentine last week at Nkando Trading Centre after quite sometime. My colleagues and I were travelling from Mulanje where MultiChoice Malawi organised a special treat for the media. On our way back, we stopped at Nkando just to say hallo to Akweni; and there she was at peace with herself.

By the way, she also spoiled us with drinks!

Apart from Akweni, there was another fella called Munyapa who thrilled on my tour to Mulanje. He operates a bicycle taxi [kabaza] at Chitakale and believe it or not, he cycled to Likhubula Dam—approximately 10 kilometres away—taking almost the same time as the vehicle we were travelling in. Maybe, with proper training, Munyapa could compete at global cycling events such as the Tour de France.

AOB: So, Sir Alex has taken the final bow? Go well good ‘ole man. Of course, others might have called him chithumwa cha Man U, but to me, he was something special. I am a Blues fan inside out, but he left me with a host of memories—there were honours, a lot of them, and oh boy, that charisma and determination to win, win and win! Now he has got to switch from chewing bubble-gum on the sidelines to gondolosi, I am sure the stuff will help him perform in other areas considering his age.Glory be to God!Uloliwe.. Uloliwe wayidudula hi..Nang’esiza! [The train is pushing!]
