Murder convictsescape, 1 recaptured
Two murder suspects last week escaped from Zomba Maximum Security Prison, with one of them making a second daring escape in a space of six months, a prison source has disclosed.
The source identified one escapee as Charles Maganga, who once got off on April 7 this year and was recaptured last month.
On his first escape, the source disclosed, Maganga escaped alongside a Tanzanian who was on life sentence and is still at large.
The source said: “This time around, he escaped with a man known as Phiza, a murder convict. They made a hole into the wall and made their way out on Tuesday night.â€
Malawi Prison Service spokesperson Evance Phiri confirmed the escape, but said they have recaptured Maganga.
Phiri said there were only two people in the cell when they made a hole into the wall.
