Two murder suspects last week escaped from Zomba Maximum Security Prison, with one of them making a second daring escape in a space of six months, a prison source has disclosed.

The source identified one escapee as Charles Maganga, who once got off on April 7 this year and was recaptured last month.

On his first escape, the source disclosed, Maganga escaped alongside a Tanzanian who was on life sentence and is still at large.

The source said: “This time around, he escaped with a man known as Phiza, a murder convict. They made a hole into the wall and made their way out on Tuesday night.”

Malawi Prison Service spokesperson Evance Phiri confirmed the escape, but said they have recaptured Maganga.

Phiri said there were only two people in the cell when they made a hole into the wall.
