The countdown to the launch of the 17th album for Malawi’s artist Lucius Banda gets underway with a live concert at Club Limpopo in Lilongwe on Friday night.

The self-styled ‘Soldier’ will unveil Time at Mkango Lodge in Blantyre next week Friday and Lilongwe Golf Club two days later.

He confirmed that from the roadside Limpopo (formerly Fresh Air) at Area 36, he will take his Zembani Band, including Lulu and Sam Simakweli, to Cinderella Club at Area 25 on Saturday.

The two gigs will put him in shape for a cameo at the Carlsberg-sponsored launch of Anthony Makondetsa’s seventh release Fuko Lokondedwa at Lilongwe Golf Club on Sunday. The show on the vast greens will star Black Missionaries, Piksy, Edgar ndi Davis, Skeffa Chimoto and Giddes Chalamanda.

“All is set for the show at Limpopo and other venues in Lilongwe this weekend. This is a great outing considering that I am tuning up for the launch of my album next weekend.

“The launch will feature Zambia’s Oga Family and General Kanene along with locals such as Skeffa Chimoto, Dan Lu and Piksy,” said Lucius in an interview on Wednesday.

The album contains such hits as Paulendo, Chule (Wakwatiwadi), Alleluya and Missing You Lucky Dube which are enjoying massive airplay on local radio stations. The tribute to South Africa’s fallen reggae star Dube features a lead singer of his band—The Slaves.

In an interview, Limpopo proprietor Valley Yowasi said it was great to have soldier back after his premiere show at the emerging venue last November. He reckons the concert reinforces the pub’s place as a new live entertainment destination in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.
