Even in the absence of an official communication on the ease down on coronavirus restrictions, a number of local music acts have made a return on stage.

Over the weekend some of the country’s most sought-after artists got into full swing with live performances across the country. Music sensation Lulu together with his Mathumela Band entertained patrons at Acres Square at the Gateway Mall in Lilongwe on Saturday night.

The show on Sunday at Ozone attracted a huge patronage and was held under the subtle feeling of victory. The undertones in the utterances made on stage were that Covid-19 has finally been defeated.

“We should thank God that we are here today. He has seen us through this Covid-19 battle. We need to be grateful that we have defeated this monster called Covid-19,” said Anthony Makondetsa when he got on stage.

The Chileka-based band paraded their full ensemble on the afternoon. First to take to the stage was Moda Fumulani then Khonzie Masimbe who announced plans to release a new album this year. Yanjanani Chumbu also had a chance to delight the fun seekers with a couple of songs including his new single Chifukwa cha Iwe.

Another notable delight on the day was the exceptional guitar antics of the group’s new catch, lead guitarist Marko Kamba. With great ease and dexterity, he mesmerised fans with his prowess.

Songs from all the Kuimba albums formed part of the long playlist. When Anjiru finally brought the curtain down a few minutes before 11 pm, the ecstatic patrons had received more than what they had bargained for.

At Gateway Mall in Lilongwe, Lulu jumped on the stage at exactly 9:45pm and was welcomed by hundreds of cheerfing fans.

Appearing in a decorated white Maritime captain cap, Lulu opened his session with Ukukanika Bwanji Kukhululuka.

“Lilongwe, I am grateful that the air is finally settling. I missed you a lot. Let us interact, have fun and enjoy ourselves,” said Lulu in between his performance

In an interview after the show, Chifundo Kagone, said the performance was amazing.
