Muslims in Malawi on November 16 joined their colleagues across the world in celebrating the New Year and pray for peace and prosperity in the country.

Executive director of the Islamic Relief Agency (IRA) Sheikh Abdul Razzak Fattani said prayers marking the occasion were held in all mosques across the country.

“We prayed for unity, peace, prosperity and development to continue prevailing in the country.

“In the prayers, we also tackled the issue of rains so that farmers benefit from good yields. May the good Lord heal the sick wherever they are,” said Fattani.

The following day, IRA donated clothes to Puli Madrassah in Chileka in Blantyre as well as to non-Muslim children in the district.

“Prophet Muhammad said you have to stock what you have done for the past 11 months before the great day comes to you.

“Our friends lost their lives in the year but we are still living and for this reason we have to thank Him for his enduring mercies,” said Fattani.
