Mutharika Comesa trip postponed

President Peter Mutharika has postponed his trip to Zambia at the eleventh hour where he is expected to attend a Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) meeting from tomorrow (Wednesday).

He is instead expected to leave for Lusaka, Zambia at 7 am.

Postponed his trip to Zambia: Mutharika

Presidential and State House spokesperson Mgeme Kalirani confirmed that Mutharika failed to fly to Zambia because the private jet he was supposed to travel in developed a fault before it left from South Africa.

“Yes I can confirm that the president has cancelled the trip today because the private jet he was supposed to use developed a fault. Owners of the jet communicated that the plane would not be at the airport around the time the President was supposed to leave,” said Kalirani.

According to him, the company arranged for the departure at around nine o’clock this evening, instead of the official time which State House arranged.

Senior government officials, party supporters and the military parade were already patiently for the President at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) when news broke that Mutharika had cancelled the trip.

The Police motorcade was seen leaving State House around 4pm where they had gone to accompany the presidential convoy to Kamuzu International Airport.
