Mutharika gives generator to Ndirande Heath Centre
President Peter Mutharika has donated an electric generator to Ndirande Health Centre in Blantyre.
Minister of Information, Tourism and Civic Education Jappie Mhango presented the generator on Thursday, on behalf of the President, at a function held at the health centre.The K3 million-worth generator was sourced from Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (Macra).
Speaking after the handover, Mhango said the President made the donation to ensure quality health service delivery at the centre.
“When President Mutharika visited Ndirande earlier this year, member of Parliament (MP) for the area [Themba Mkandawire] asked him to provide Ndirande Heath Centre with a generator to supplement the already existing electricity. The President has responded to the appeal,” said Mhango.
Blantyre District Health Officer Medison Matchaya said the generator has come at a right time when the health centre is upgrading to a community hospital.
Macra deputy director general Francis Bisika said the donation is part of his organisation’s corporate social responsibility.
Why are we fast becoming a banana republic? The HE sources a genset from a government institution (probably bought using may tax) and donates the same to a clinic and somebody says it is a donation from the president? How can you donate something that never belonged to you? Or is this a sign that the president is not so sure of what he is doing and his village of advisers are trying their best to cover up his cluelessness?

Ridiculous reporting, it looks like this reporter does not know the deference between a donation and the re-allocatioin of resources within govt. What the president has done here is just re-allocate the gen set from one govt institution to another.
