Also in attendance was KalongaGawaUndi, king of Chewa people from Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia, former vice-president Justin Malewezi, leader of opposition and Malawi Congress Party president Lazarus Chakwera, Paramount Chief Lundu, the clergy, government officials, various party officials and Chewa Heritage Foundation (Chefo) members, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, TrasizioGowelo, advised the new couple to assist government in its various development programmes.

Said the minister: “Marriage is a gift from God, I advise you to assist each other in ensuring that there is peace and stability in your area as well as promoting various development programmes that government is implementing.”

Gowelo cited the Decent and Affordable Housing Subsidy Programme (DAHSP) and the Social Cash Transfer Scheme as some of the programmes that need support from the chief for their successful implementation.

Malewezi, who spoke on behalf of KalongaGawaUndi, commended the President for attending the wedding, saying it only shows how he values unity among all people regardless of their tribal or religious groupings.

He said: “I would like to appeal to each one of us to emulate the President’s kind gesture which clearly signifies that he treats us all like his own children.”
