Determined to boot People’s Party (PP) and President Joyce Banda out of government in the May 20 Tripartite Elections: Mutharika

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika has said he is determined to boot People’s Party (PP) and President Joyce Banda out of government in the May 20 Tripartite Elections.

Mutharika was speaking at Mchengautuwa in Mzuzu on Tuesday where he was introducing his running mate Saulos Chilima to DPP supporters in the city. He said he now has acquired a ‘red card’ in apparent reference to his United States (US) green card he relinquished following debate on his allegiance.

The DPP president waved the red card in the air at the rally to symbolise that he will boot out Banda come May 20.

He said it is a mockery for Malawi to have a President who distributes chickens and goats as her strategy to develop the country.

“They [government] tried all means to bar me from contesting. They devised a number of strategies, including the green card. I got rid of the green card and I now have a red card! I want them to know that I have a red card that I will use to remove her from government,” said Mutharika.

He said Malawians have every reason to put DPP in government as (PP) has messed up.

Chilima who surprised the people at the rally with his fluency in Tumbuka, said the country needs visionary and serious leaders who can fix the economy.
