Mutharika women football league season starts tomorrow

Women football action returns to the pitch this weekend as the 2014 season of the Peter Mutharika women football leagues kick off.

According to National Women Football Committee (NWFC) chairperson Severia Chalira, leagues in the South and North will begin their games this weekend while the Centre will have their first encounters next week.

“Everything is now in place for the season to start. All logistical issues have been sorted out,” said Chalira about the leagues, which were initially scheduled to begin two months ago.

In the South, Ntopwa Super Queens will take on Zomba City Queens at Bangwe Youth Centre in Blantyre while ATU Ladies will be up against Sitima Yoce Sisters at Chigumula ground.

Southern Region Women Football Committee (SRWFC) general secretary Immaculate Chiwaya said both games will start at 2pm on Saturday.

Chiwaya said on Sunday, Blantyre Zero will begin their title defence against Dreams United at Chilunga ground in Ndirande whereas Zomba will host King’s Ladies at Zomba Community Centre ground.

Northern Region Women Football Committee (NRWFC) chairperson Clara Luhanga said they will have five matches this weekend.

She said on Saturday, Nkhata Bay Sisters will be up against hosts Moyale Barracks before taking on defending champions Kwaito Sisters at Mzuzu CCAP ground.  On the same day, CY Sisters will tussle against Luwinga Sisters at Katoto ground.

“Ekwendeni Sisters are expected to host Chirumba Barracks FC on Sunday morning, before battling it out against CY Sisters at Katoto in the afternoon,” she said.
