Mwafulira hints on Europe return

Malawi national football team (Flames) striker Russell Mwafulirwa has hinted on a possible return to Europe if he does not settle at South Africa’s Jomo Cosmos where he is battling work permit delays.

“If it does not work out here, returning to Europe is the option, but I will give Cosmos the first option,” said the former Silver Strikers player.

Mwafulirwa said this last week when asked why he opted to return to South Africa at the end of his three-year contract with Swedish top tier side, IFK Norrkoping.

The striker, who also had a stint with Cosmos in 2003, attributed his South Africa return to his children’s struggles to enrol at Swedish schools.

He claims Norrkoping were willing to extend his contract, but there was no way he could ignore his two children’s education needs.

Mwafulirwa signed for Norrkoping in 2008 from Ajax Cape Town at undisclosed transfer fee.

On his return, Cosmos signed him in a desperate bid to escape relegation in the Premier League where they lie at the bottom on 13 points from 19 games.

“Cosmos have an opportunity to win their second league game of the season when they host Moroka Swallows at Sinaba Stadium tonight [Tuesday],” www.jomocosmos.co.za reported on Tuesday.
