Discarded Flames gangly forward Russell Mwafulirwa is on trials at South Africa’s University of Pretoria (UP) where he is hoping to impress Steve Barker and relaunch his career.

Kickoff.com

on Tuesday reported that Mwafulirwa began his trials with Amatuks in Pretoria on Monday, but the player himself could not be reached for comment.

Mwafulirwa’s last team was Swedish Division Two outfit IK Sleipner. Before that, Mwafulirwa was contracted to the then top-league side IFK Norrkoping where he scored a modest 18 goals out of 55 appearances.

His last game for the Flames was against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier last year.

Since then, he has not been considered for national duty as he continued his desperate hunt for a club.

On the local scene, Mwafulirwa made his name at Silver Strikers before trekking to South Africa where he played for Jomo Cosmos and Ajax Cape Town.
