Mwakhwawa, McComb shine in Airtel Golf

John-Gift Mwakhwawa and Carol McComb on Saturday emerged champions of the fifth Airtel Fixed Broadband Enterprise Golf Tournament at Kasasa Golf Course in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

Despite the scorching sun on the day, Mwakhwawa of Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) displayed classic golf to register 40 stablefold points to see off a field of  64. Patridge Shycal  (37 points) of Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) was the runner-up while Medson Rocka (34 points) also from LGC, was third.

“It was a proud moment playing in Kasasa, the course was playing good and it provided me the required winning environment. I am happy that I will be going back to Blantyre with this top prize,” said Mwakhwawa after receiving a golf bag, i-phone 5s, a trophy and K20 000  airtime.

In the women’s category, McComb of Kachere Golf Club (KGC) in Kasungu amassed 41 points while second placed Audra Bester had 30 points.

“I enjoyed my run today despite the hot weather, This is my first triumph this year,” she said.

Apart from a trophy, the ladies champion also received a Wilson standbag,  Iphone 5s and K20 000 airtime. Her runner-up, received a tailor-made standbag, a trophy and K15 000 airtime.

Cosmas Mwenibabo hit the longest drive in the men’s section while Kondwani Mphula was nearest to the pin.

The longest drive for ladies went to McComb while Bester was nearest to the pin.

Airtel enterprise director Rachel Mijiga thanked the golfers for their participation.

“It was wonderful interacting with the golfers here at Kasasa. We have another tournament coming up next month in Lilongwe and we expect another good turnout,” she said. n
