Private practiceLawyer John Gift Mwakhwawa and Hilda Wheelwright maintained their outstanding form on the Country Club Limbe (CCL) greens on Saturday when they successfully defended NBS Bank Monthly Mug titles.
Mwakhwawa, who took last month’s glory with net 67, improved his performance by a stroke to finish six-over-par on front nine and level par on the back as Mayamiko Kalizang’oma and Gilton Chiwaula came right on his heels as runner-up and third placed with net 67 and 68, respectively.

The Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) golf captain summed up his victory in the 56-golfer contest with a birdie on the 17th hole and a bogey on the 14th to add a 10th NBS Bank trophy on his mantelpiece.
If he had not bogeyed the hole, he could have had the pride of being among the very few golfers to have a one-under-par finish in the eight-year-old competition.
“As BSC captain, it is always my wish that whenever I step my foot on the CCL greens I must dominate and declare it the BSC territory. I am happy that the wish has come to pass for the second successive time,” said the handicap-12 golfer.
Wheelwright retained the glory in the six-golfer ladies’ section with net 76. The handicap 100 golfer achieved a similar feat when she took the crown last month.
NBS Bank branch manager Kalizang’oma thanked the golfers for patronising the competition in their large numbers and he urged them to continue while keeping their money safe in the bank’s accounts.
