Mzuzu-based professional boxer Felix Mwamaso is set to face Tanzanian boxer Maisha Kanisoni in a 10-round non-title bout scheduled to take place at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu on December 27.

The two will fight in the middle weight category and according to the bout’s promoter, Bagdad Mwamlima, the fight will mark the official re-opening of the boxing arena which was closed for renovations early September this year.

Semi-professional bouts involving Zacharia Moyo against Leo Kayira and Macdonald Thipa versus Lewis Mkandawire will also spice the occasion.

This will be the first time for Kanisoni to face Mwamaso.

“It will be an interesting bout. Kanisoni is a good boxer. He has won 16 professional bouts out of 22 he has fought so far,” said Mwamlima.

Mwamaso, a national middleweight title holder, has won 13 out of 18 bouts.

Mwamaso’s coach, Gabrael Mkondowe, said preparations for the bout were going on well.

“We are not panicking; we are doing our usual preparations. Our fight plan is that the Tanzanian will be silenced before round eight,” said Mkondowe.

Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) general secretary Gibson Chisale said the bout has come at a right time when people were asking for bouts.

“I am sure it will be an exciting moment for boxing lovers because both boxers are well experienced having fought many professional international bouts,” said Chisale. n
