Mzuzu-based boxer Felix Mwamaso has challenged Malawi Defence Force (MDF) pugilist Alick Mwenda for the middleweight title.
New Dawn Promotions have agreed to sponsor a bout between the two renowned boxers on May 11 at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS).
“We are always excited to sponsor title fights and that is the reason we are in boxing. Mwenda has [finally] accepted to face Mwamaso.
“Mwamaso has proved to be a good boxer and we believe he has the potential to develop into a true star. Mwenda has proved his worth too. This is going to be a great fight,” said New Dawn Promotions director Michael Chimaliza.
He said the fight will be worth K750 000 (US$1 842.75), but is yet to give a breakdown of the prize money.
“We are still negotiating with the boxers on prize money and I might be able to announce the figures next week. But the budget is K750 000, including two amateur fights on the day. We wanted to have the fight this weekend but the venues are all fully booked for the next four weeks,” said Chimaliza.
