During the function, Mwanamvekha also gave out K3 million (about $4 582) from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the construction of an early childhood development centre at Nsoni Primary School in the district.

Chairperson of the area’s development committee (ADC), Pius Chinyanga, said previously villagers in surrounding Namanila Market used to share water sources with domestic animals, risking their lives to waterborne diseases. He pledged communities’ care for the boreholes.

Director for China-Lilongwe Holding Corporation, Jeff Zhang, who released $20 000 (K13 million) for Chiradzulu South water project, pledged more development projects in the country, including a five star hotel in Lilongwe and a cigarette manufacturing company in Blantyre.

“We are ready to roll out more projects in Malawi to support the Malawi economy by, among other things, employing more Malawians. This year expect more investors to come to Malawi to do different types of businesses through the Association for Malawi Investment Promotion,” said Jeff, before donating K100 000 for maintenance of the boreholes.

Mwanamvekha, who is also Minister of Industry and Trade, promised his constituents more development projects such as clinics, bridges, roads as well as ECD blocks.

He warned committees managing the ECD project to use the money for its intended purpose, or they will face the long arm of the law. n
