Professional netball star Mwawi Kumwenda marked her 25th birthday with a netball clinic at Sigerege Primary School in Chilomoni, Blantyre on Friday.
This was the towering Malawi Queens shooter’s second netball clinic since she returned home a month ago from her New Zealand club Easiyo Tactix for a two-month holiday.

She had her first clinic last week at Misesa Primary School in Blantyre.
On Friday, she continued to use improvised equipment to drill over 40 female pupils more the basics of netball as she awaits the arrival of her container, loaded with sports paraphernalia, which is stuck at the Mozambican border due to clearance hitches.
She, however, bemoaned the lack of support from the corporate world and the scarcity of sports necessities such as netball courts in the country’s schools.

After drilling the girls and donating two netballs to the school, Mwawi said: “I always get fascinated by the response I get from primary school pupils whenever I conduct a netball clinic. It always shows they love sporting activities, but the problem is that they do not have proper venues and equipment.
“It is, therefore, my plea to government, the corporate world and other stakeholders to make sure these things are readily available for pupils in schools.”

Mwawi’s concern over the scarcity of netball courts in schools resulted from her experience at Misesa and Sigerege where they improvise bumpy, dusty and treacherous grounds into netball courts.
Sports teacher at Sigerege Primary School Hannah Khapaya-Soko thanked the netballer for taking her time off her busy schedule to help the school’s pupils hone some netball skills.
