Mwawi Kumwenda returns to Australia on Sunday for a third eight-month contract with the Victorian Netball League (VNL) outfit Peninsula Waves.

Her manager and cousin, Hlupikile Phiri said on Thursday that her visa is ready and everything is set for her to fly back to Australia after a two-month off-season break.

“Her visa is granted and she will leave on Sunday. As her manager and family member, I encourage her to work even harder in the foreign land and continue being the country’s netball ambassador. We are proud of her,” said Phiri.

Mwawi, who helped Waves rise on the VNL rankings from position seven to four last season, said she is ready to continue from where she stopped. She was the league’s best player of the year.

“I wish to assure Malawians that I will work extra harder to promote the good reputation of the sport in the country. I have a challenging task to lure more foreign netball clubs to have trust in Malawian netballers,” she said.

The 22-year-old Universal Industries’ Frooty Juice ambassador is expected to start training with Waves next Wednesday.

The 2013 Victorian league starts in the middle of this month.
