Australia-based netball star Mwawi Kumwenda has released the first of her pairs of Puma shoes with the Malawian flag embedded in the design.

In an interview yesterday, she said the Germany sports-wear manufacturer has made it for her as the brand ambassador.

However, the former Kukoma Diamonds shooter said the Puma shoes will be made available for sale later.

“This was made specifically for me as Puma Brand Ambassador,” said Kumwenda.

She joins Brazil and PSG forward Neymar who also sealed an endorsement deal with Puma.

In 2018, the Malawian also penned a deal with Australian Nissan motor vehicle franchise dealers Berwick Nissan.

In an interview with our sister paper The Nation last month Kumwenda was quoted as having been excited.

She said: “This is a dream come true. I have signed a two-year deal with Puma.

“I am very happy with the deal and excited to work with Puma which is a big sports institution across the globe and dressing up in Puma attire feels really great.”

However the gangling netballer could not disclose how much she stands to earn from the deal. Netball Association of Malawi president Khungekile Matiya said the deal underlines Mwawi’s prowess as a world-class athlete.
