Mwawi: it it the least I can do for the country

A container of sports and educational equipment, which friends of Mwawi Kumwenda sourced in New Zealand, has been cleared by the immigration authorities and is ready for distribution in local schools in December.

Mwawi, who is in Nkhata Bay conducting coaching clinics in primary schools, yesterday expressed excitement over the clearance of the consignment.

The lofty shooter said she will soon start distributing the equipment to selected schools and hospitals.

“It has been a long wait. I thank all parties that helped me in clearing the container. I will start distributing the items in December,” Mwawi said in a telephone interview from Nkhata Bay.

Main Freight of New Zealand paid for the shipping of the goods up to Mozambique where it stayed for sometime due to some clearance hurdles. Upon arrival in the country few weeks ago, the equipment faced another clearance hiccup locally.

Mwawi’s friends and family at the EasiYo Tactix collected netball equipment, clothes, furniture, toys and books for her clinics in the country.

“The sports equipment will be used for my netball clinis in schools. It is the least I can do for the country as an appreciation to God for His blessings” she said.

Meanwhile, Mwawi has lined up coaching clinics at Mkondezi, Kapingama, Chindozwa, Chikale Bwelero and Chinguluwe primary schools in Mzimba and Nkhata Bay districts between now and December 1.

“I also plan some clinics in Kasungu before I wrap up. My objective is to unearth talent in these schools. There might be some girls with better talent than mine, but without such clinics, it is not easy to spot them,” said Mwawi.
