Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer Alick Mwenda will face Mussa Mkwanda at the Summit Leisure Centre in Lilongwe this Friday.

The fight, which will see the winner pocketing K80 000 (about $200) and the loser K60 000 (about $150), has been sponsored by former amateur boxer Jafali Pias through Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions.

Pias said he has arranged the fight after receiving a challenge from Mkwanda.

“He (Mkwanda) badly wants to fight Mwenda. When I was approached, I did not hesitate but arranged the fight. Though I never fought as a professional, I have always loved boxing,” he said.

Pias fought under Lada Chimbalanga’s Sun Village Boxing Stable.

Speaking from his base in Mchinji, Mkwanda, who weighs 70 kilogrammes, expressed confidence, saying he is set to cause an upset.

“I have never fought Alick, but I have watched him fighting; I know his weaknesses. I am sure I will beat him and he
won’t last five rounds,” he said.
