Mwangonde said the council will upgrade an abandoned park at Kaning’ina. He said plans are at an advanced stage and soon the council will be engaging stakeholders.

He said the park will offer people a variety of services to ensure that no one is deprived of fun.

Mwangonde said the park will target people of all ages, especially those that do not drink or smoke so that they too, can have a place where they can interact with friends and family.

He said the area also has a dam which the city intends to develop to introduce boat rides, swinging bridges and other activities that will add value to the park.

“We want to provide people who do not drink [alcohol] or smoke a place they can relax in Mzuzu. We want them to be able to take their families to the park without  fear of violence. We want this to be a model park,” said Mwangonde.

He said there will also be accommodation facilities at the park.

Mwangonde said the park will also be a means of generating revenue to ensure  the council provides proper services to its residents.

He said: “We also want have a garden which people can utilise for weddings and other ceremonies.”
