Mzava, Gaba’s Celtic in crisis meet

Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango and Limbikani Mzava’s Bloemfontein Celtic will hold crisis talks after losing 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in a South Africa Premiership match on Sunday afternoon.

Mhango was replaced by Joel Magorosi at half-time whereas Mzava was substituted for Sici Shelembe on the 60th minute. Celtic dropped to 11th on the 16-member standings after six games.

Mhango is, contrary to what South Africa press reported recently, yet to score this season.

Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb fought with Wandisile Letlabika, whose back pass to Tignyemb was intercepted and resulted in Elias Pelembe scoring for the visitors.

Celtic’s Alfred Ndengane was also red carded. On their website, Celtic confirmed that the club’s management, technical team and players were to hold an urgent meeting yesterday in “an effort to thrash out issues that might be affecting the players and technical team”.

Celtic chairperson Max Tshabalala released a statement confirming that there will be a meeting this morning and also apologised to the Siwelele [Celtic] fans for the loss.

“As the game ended, I personally went to the supporters together with the players and management to apologise for the loss,” he wrote. “We lost as a team and no individuals were responsible for the defeat.”

Still in South Africa, Flames two-goal hero in last Wednesday’s match against Ethiopia Atusaye Nyondo did not feature for University of Pretoria as they lost 2-1 to table-topping Kaizer Chiefs. But another Flames player Robin Ngalande came on late on Saturday to help his Ajax Cape Town edge out Free State Stars 2-1, whose assistant coach is Kinnah Phiri.
