Mzava happy with trial progress

Flames blossoming defender Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava has said he is optimistic of impressing at French club AS Monaco where he is attending trials.

Speaking in an interview from Monaco on Saturday, Mzava said: “I would say so far so good. I believe I have done quite well, but we have to wait as I still have a few more days before I finish the trials.”

The 18-year-old defender who also had trials with Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv early this year, said he is happy with the atmosphere at the French Ligue 2 club.

“I like the professional set-up here and I am working very hard to impress so that I can be offered a contract,” said Mzava.

His agent Walter Mokoena also told Kickoff.Com that Mzava has made an impressive start at the French second-tier league side.

Mzava is in the company of his representatives from Complete Footballers—Claudio Bollo and Mokoena—who are delighted with his start.

“Limbikani has had his first two training sessions at AS Monaco and he has acquitted himself very well. He’s been impressive. He will be with the club until Monday next week gaining valuable experience in Europe,” Mokoena was quoted as saying.

Mzava could have signed for Hapoel, but his South African club Bloemfontein Celtic failed to agree terms with the Israeli side.

Mzava has not played for Celtic this season because he is not registered.

AS Monaco is based in Fontvieille, Monaco. The club was founded in 1924 and currently play in Ligue 2.

The club is managed by former Monaco player and Italian international Marco Simone and captained by Ludovic Giuly. Simone works as manager in tandem with club sporting director Jean Petit.

Monaco is one of the most successful clubs in the country having won seven league titles and five Coupe de France trophies. The club has also regularly competed in European football having been runners-up in both the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Champions League in 1992 and 2004, respectively.
