Mzikamanda: Staff need empowerment

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) director general Judge Rizine Mzikamanda has said only well-trained and skilled people can effectively carry out the bureau’s mandate of fighting corruption in the country.

Mzikamanda said this in Blantyre on Monday at the opening of a five-day mandatory competence building training for its newly recruited 19 operational staff from all the three regions of Malawi, including its new Zomba Branch.

Mzikamanda said training empowers staff to work diligently.

“We understand the importance of integrity, honesty, discipline and professionalism when carrying various activities in the bureau. We, therefore, want to equip with skills, knowledge, attitudes to these new officers so that they understand the operations of the bureau and be able to work with confidence and determination” he said.

Mzikamanda urged the participants to take the course seriously, saying the bureau’s tasks are of great interest to many sectors of the society.

The staff will be trained in the grounds of investigative interviews, elements of offence, law of evidence, statement making, communications skills, property control and exhibit handling, record keeping, corruption prevention and public education.
