A newly-formed music band in Mzimba, The Rising Stars, is gaining ground in the Northern Region as various organisations are hiring it for performances.

The organisations use the eight-member band to spread various messages on HIV and Aids, child marriages, family planning, male circumcision, environment and education.

Some of the organisations that seek its services are World Vision Malawi, National Aids Commission and Word Alive Ministries,

Band manager Tendai Msiska said the music group has since started recording all its songs for an album to be released by end of this year.

“We have finished composing the songs and started studio sessions. We expect to finish recording them in three months’ time and release the album by end of the year,” he said.

The band was formed as Ulunji Band in 2003, but disbanded after losing several members. It has been revived recently as The Rising Stars with the ultimate goal of holding their own stage performances.

So far, the band curtain raises for other artists and bands that visit the district for stage performances.  n
