As one a way of fundraising for the re-stocking of the Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Library which was gutted by fire last December, Mzuni Alumni has organised a Dinner and Dance to be held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on 1st April 2016.
The former students also plan to use part of the raised finances for construction of toilets and procurement of classroom furniture.
“We are equally saddened by the loss of books and other equipment after the fire gutted down the library. We would like to join stakeholders and donors who are working tirelessly to assist the University financially and morally to restore the library’s operations,” said Kawanga.
He appealed to individuals, companies and organisations to support the cause adding that sponsorship categories and benefits of the same are available on request while individuals and alumni can pay K30,000 ($ to attend the dinner and dance.
According to Kawanga, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Dr Emmanuel Fabiano will be the Guest-of-Honour at the event.
He said so far, individuals, companies and organisations have pledged support financially and materially towards this event.
Since its inception in 1999, Mzuzu University has played a huge role in tertiary education in Malawi through a number of programmes.
