Mzuzu University (Mzuni) nursing students on Wednesday donated assorted items to expectant mothers at Mzuzu Health Centre.

They donated soap and packets of sugar while the hospital got infection prevention items such as cleaning buckets and gloves.

Speaking during the handover of the items, the student’s team leader Iwell Ziba said they learnt of the hospital’s challenges when they were conducting practical lessons at the facility.

“We noticed that the hospital does not have enough medical equipment. We, therefore, found it imperative to contribute funds and purchase these items so that the hospital should provide better services.”

“We are not stopping here, we will do the same in other hospitals such as Ekwendeni and Mzuzu Central Hospital. We are sure that other students in different colleges across the country will emulate this,” he said.

In his remarks, the maternity in-charge Mtondera Munthali said the hospital has shortage of equipment. She thanked the students for the donation. n
