Mzuni Stadium under construction

Mzuzu City will soon have another stadium where high football competitions such as Super League games can be staged because construction of Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Stadium is in progress.

A visit by The Nation at the stadium construction site within Mzuzu University campus on Wednesday showed clearing of the facility.

Mzuni FC chairperson Albert Harawa, who is also executive member for the construction committee, said it is their desire to have the facility so that they host Super League games as well.

He noted that a fully-fledged university is supposed to have a stadium that is composed of other sports facilities.

“We need to have our own football stadium so that we are able to host big games once we possess such facility,” said Harawa.

According to Harawa, minor construction works are through and the committee is working on how to source other resources for the second phase.

“We finished ground levelling, what remains are the marking of drainage systems, terraces, face, rooms and other facilities. We are sure that by the end of this football season, we will finish more construction facilities,” he said.

Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) acting chairperson Zuza Nyondo welcomed the development, saying the presence of another standard venue will be good for soccer fans in Mzuzu.
