Mzuzu Cycling Club last week joined Christians all over the world in celebrating the Easter season by embarking on a cycling to Ngozi Volcanic Lake in Mbeya, Tanzania.

The eight-member Mzuzu-based cyclists started off at Katoto Secondary School in Mzuzu on Friday morning and cycled for 752 kilometres.cyclists

Speaking during the departure, Mzuzu Cycling Club chairperson Potiphar Munthali, who was also leader of the team, said the tour was part of an annual event organised to celebrate the Easter Holiday.

He said the tour also provided them an opportunity to interact with other cyclists from Bvaza and Livingstonia where they stopped over.

“As Christians all over the world when commemorating the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, they do several things; some go to church, others to the Lake, but as cyclists we decided to spend the Easter Holiday by cycling,” said Munthali.

He said the tour acted as preparatory ground for the 2015 cycling tournament season.

“Apart from such celebrations, the tour enabled cyclists to be active for the upcoming 2015 national cycling races,” said Munthali.

This is not the first time for the club to conduct such tours.

Last year, Mzuzu Cycling Club members covered 72 kilometres distance where they visited Livingstonia Mission in Rumphi.
