Mzuzu Golf Club ban lifted

Mzuzu Golf Club is now operational after it was banned by the Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) in March this year for not remitting annual affiliation fees for the 2015/2016 season.

The ban stopped its members from participating in GUoM organised tournaments.

GUoM handicap and rules director Edwin Chipala yesterday said the club’s members are now eligible to participate in any golf tournament having settled the handicap and union fees late last month.

“I can confirm that Mzuzu Golf Club has now remitted its annual affiliation fees. Its members are now allowed  to participate in any golf tournament. Just last week, some of its players, who participated in the Afrox Golf competition in Dwangwa, won,” he said.

Meanwhile, the club has lined up five tournaments for the 2016 season.

“We are now set. We have cleared our outstanding membership and handicap fees. Our players have started participating in tournaments,” said newly-elected Mzuzu Golf Club general secretary Thomas Malopa.

So far, a visit at Mzuzu Golf Club shows that clearing of the course has commenced.

“Our plan is that we should start hosting tournaments by early next month. We expect to finish clearing of the bush on the course by Saturday [tomorrow]week,” he said.  n
