Mzuzu City mayor William Mkandawire has urged any government that will win the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections to continue with the tarmac roads projects in city.

Mkandawire: This is a good programme

The mayor made the appeal on Thursday when he presided over Mzuzu City Council budget deliberations.

Mkandawire, who alongside other councillors will soon be leaving office after serving for five years, hailed government for promoting the city’s tarmac roads programme saying, it is transforming cities and it needs to be continued.

He said: “If we started this programme long ago, our cities would have had good roads in all locations. This is a good programme and should continue.

“If we can do this for 15 to 20 years, I am sure transport challenges we are facing now will be history.”

Mkandawire also called on the council to prioritise the roads projects saying people in the city need good roads.

Mzuzu City Council chief executive officer McCloud Kadammanja committed to continue with the projects that councillors had prioritised.

He said the council has allocated more resources towards upgrading of roads and also expects more funding from government.

Kadam’manja also hailed Mkandawire for being a good leader and a team player.

Government was implementing a K7 billion Special City Roads and Street Lighting Rehabilitation Project in all the country’s four cities through the Roads Fund Administration.
