Mzuzu Taekwondo Club on Sunday held an open day at Katoto Secondary School ground where athletes showcased their skills in the sport.

This was the second time the club organised such an event. The first one took place last week at Obrigado Leisure Park.

The athletes displayed skills such as martial fighting and acrobatics.

Taekwondo regional coach for the North, Typen Kamanga, said it is clear that the sport is not famous in the region.

“We, therefore, organised this event to showcase the entertainment that goes with the sport. We feel that through this initiative, more people will be attracted to join taekwondo,” said Kamanga.

He said Mzuzu Taekwondo Club has 30 registered members, a number he decried as low considering the size of the region, but they are this year’s Presidential Initiative on Sports national champions.
