Mzuzu-based tennis academy, Saved by The Ball (SBB), has secured the services of female expatriate coach Clara Hugas Mallorqui.

The German, who has a Grade-1 Germany Tennis Federation coaching certificate, will be with the academy for one month.

SBB director Owen Mfune on Tuesday said his organisation invited the expatriate coach for its athletes to be successful.

Mallorqui is the second tennis expatriate coach SBB has engaged since its establishment. It also had Italian Egon Taschler.

She will offer her services free of charge, according to Mfune.

SBB senior  tennis player Mary Luhanga said the coach has come at a right time as they are preparing for this year’s Malawi Open scheduled for October 27 to 30 at Country Club Limbe in Blantyre.

Mallorqui said she was motivated to come to Mzuzu to assist in nurturing the talent after learning about tennis potential in the country from her friends.

“I am happy to be part of people nurturing tennis talent in Malawi.

“As a professional and experienced tennis coach I am looking forward to good results.

“It is my hope that athletes in Mzuzu will fully utilise my presence,” she said. n
