Mzuzu to host disability commemorations

Malawi will on Friday join the global community in commemorating the International Day of People with Disabilities with the main function set for in Mzuzu city.

According to a programme released by Mzuzu City Council (MCC), Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati will preside over the ceremony to be held at Chibavi Primary School ground.

The day will be celebrated under the theme, Inclusion Matters: Access and Empowerment of People of all Abilities.

Patrons will witness various performances including music, traditional dances, drama and poems rich in messages of inclusion.

“This is in line with newly declared Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs].

“The day offers an opportunity to raise awareness on disability and other related health issues,” reads part of the programme.

The function will also see the presentation of awards to organisations and individuals that have worked tirelessly to fight for the rights of people with disabilities and covering other health related issues. n
