Mzuzu United’s Super League survival under threat

Super League debutants Mzuzu United have said they will pull out of the top-flight league if well wishers do not assist them financially and materially.

The club’s chairperson Henry Banda said this in an interview last Tuesday.

Banda said the K600 000 (about $1 428) they received for emerging Simama Premier League champions is already finished. He said the team is desperate for money to finance its operations.

So far, Mzuzu United have travelled to Dwangwa in Nkhotakota where they lost to Blue Eagles 2-0 in the team’s first match. The team also went to Blantyre where they drew one-one with Blantyre United.

But Banda said they have already spent close to K1 million as each trip costs over K450 000 (about $1 071) in transport costs alone.

“We have no football boots, we have not even paid the affiliation fee to Sulom neither have we paid our players upkeep allowances. We appeal for at least K7 million (about $17 000) from wellwishers to help us survive in the league,” he said.
