Government has admitted that Mzuzu Youth Centre (MYC) has been a ghost project and there was no need for more promises.

Speaking during the second ground breaking ceremony of the project in Mzuzu on Monday, Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Henry Mussa said it is high time government walked the talk, promising to personally push to have the project started and completed by 2018.

“We have talked enough on this project and it is time to walk the talk. I am a serious person. We cannot be here doing the ground breaking ceremony and do nothing because it will be a crime,” he said.

The minister said government allocated K50 million in the 2016/17 budget that will be  used to clear the five hectares of land, construct access to the road, bring water and electricity to the site.

He said the rest of the works will be funded by the Chinese government who will only start work after Malawi has done its part.

Mzuzu City deputy mayor Frazer Chunga said when Capital Hill commissioned the project, the youth had hope that it would start. n
