Amit Nain on Saturday ended his hunt for a first golf title after winning the T&I Global Limited Golf Tournament at Mulanje Golf Club.

The handicap-24 golfer said he was excited to achieve his goal of winning a tournament.

“This is a special day for me. It feels great to finally win my first golf title,” he said.

With 36 stableford points, Nain outclassed a field of 37 golfers in the men’s category, including his runner-up Ajay Singh and third-placed Wiseman Kabwazi, who got 34 and 31 points, respectively.

Nain got two birdies and seven pars, which was a good score for his handicap.

Bashir Shariff triumphed in the seniors category with 35 points followed by Clement Kafuwa, who scored 26 points.

Bose Kamphulusa, playing off handicap 25, won the ladies’ section with 36 points while Stella Ng’oma finished second on 35 points.

Kafuwa also claimed the joint nearest to the pin whereas Godwin Chinsewu and Carol Banda got the longest drive in men and ladies’ categories, in that order.

One of T&I Global directors Sangeet Bagaria said the tea processing machinery manufacturer and supplier thought of organising the golf event to appreciate the 20-year support from the Malawi tea industry.

“We are extremely happy to host this tournament at Mulanje Golf Club. We have enjoyed two decades of close association with the Malawi tea industry and we thank them for their continuous support.

“We applaud the industry for being resilient in the face of challenges before finally coming out stronger than before,” he explained.
